What Are The Implications Of The Sanctions Against Iran On The People Of Iranian Descent Living In The US?
The number of people of Iranian descent that are living in the US has increased steadily over the years. There are a variety of reasons why they come here to the US. Following the sanctions against Iran in the recent times, life has turned sour for many of the Iranian -Americans. Well, the story behind this turn of events is that Iran has been participating in a number of vices that are completely unacceptable to the international community and the result of its reluctance to desist from these vices has resulted in this precarious situation. Some of these vices are the manufacture of nuclear weapons, harboring, protecting and supporting terror groups among other things. This has resulted in the sanctions against Iran from all quarters like the EU, UN, and the US government. This has been going on for years but it is only now that the sanctions have started to take.
The effects of these sanctions are being felt in Iran and it has started to seriously affect Iran’s economy. The people of Iranian descent living outside of Iran have had to grapple with the effects of these sanctions as well, especially those living on the US soil. One of the effects is that there is an unemployment crisis that is being faced by Iranian-Americans among many others. So what exactly are the effects of these sanctions against Iran on the people of Iranian descent living in the US?
The Iran sanctions have not only affected those who were employed in the US but even those who have their own businesses. The biggest blow for the business community was the restrictions on imports and exports because this is the lifeblood of business. Some of these businessmen had established a market that they can’t reach because of the sanction. The fact that the focus was on this particular industry has not only affected Iran’s economy but also people of Iranian descent living in the US. People are also afraid to have anything to do with these Iranian-Americans because they don’t want to find themselves in trouble and so they don’t buy from them.
Even worse, those of Iranian descent who still had ties with their relatives back home have had to cut them. Those that sent funds as support for their elderly parents cannot do that anymore. This goes deeper than what can be seen on the surface because these people have had to carry money in suitcases across the border. No bank wants to help because they are afraid of getting penalized if they are found.
Anyone who inherits property from their deceased relative in Iran cannot benefit from it because they are not allowed to sell it. It would have been better if you could hire a lawyer to help with your business in Iran but this is also prohibited.
